Frequently asked questions

Why does the Eye Gel tighten, tingle or sometimes sting?

Short answer is it’s the active ingredients doing their job. The tightening feeling comes from the Niacinamide reducing or tightening pores, keeping dirt and excess oil on the surface of your skin where it belongs. The tingling feeling is the Matrixyl® synthe’6™, which is a relaxing agent – and the slight stinging you may feel is the hyaluronic acid connecting with dry, damaged or raw skin.

This can sometimes happen if you’ve been out in the sun or wind, have used an exfoliant or if you’ve used strong products on your skin that encourage cell regeneration, like a peel or a Retinol based product. Don’t worry, it should only last a few seconds. You should then start to feel the cooling and softening benefits of the MariMoist® and in 15 days or less (after use daily) start to see the benefits of the Eyeseryl® as the puffiness under your eyes just fades away.

What does Men’s Hybrid Skincare Mean?

We realise that feeling confident can come from looking and feeling your best and that sometimes traditional skincare products just don’t cut it. Sometimes you need just a bit of colour, to conceal those dark circles or blemishes and sometimes you need that something extra to help you look brighter, more even toned, a little bit more tanned or just that little bit more fabulous than you already are.

That’s why we’ve created Tony & Munro. Weather you’re after an Eye Gel to reduce those puffy eyes, a Concealer to hide those dark circles or acne spot for your next date or a Balance Balm, Tinted Moisturiser (avail in light, mid and dark shades) to make you look more… well alive, we’ve got you covered. See the results for yourself.

HOW DO I USE THE CONCEALER?

Hot Tip – You shouldn’t overwork your concealer… squeeze it, tap it and leave it! The fact is, not all concealers are created equal. We’ve put a lot of thought and care into creating our Concealer, to make it a full coverage yet lightweight, non-greasy, matte finish formula.

The Tony & Munro Real Conceal is a skin colour Correcting Concealer and it should be primarily used for addressing problem areas like red-skin undertones across your T-zone and around your nose, or rosacea on your cheeks, or dark circles under your eyes (not for use all over your face).

However, the more you tap, rub or play with your concealer, the more you will dry it out and dilute it, making it thinner and less likely to provide even coverage and/or blend with what you put on your skin next. So guys, squeeze a little onto your finger tips (a little goes a long way), tap it onto your face – not all over – just the affected areas, and leave it! If done right, the Correcting Concealer will provide full coverage of red skin and dark circles with a bright, natural finish.

We recommend you then apply something over the top, like our Balance Balm Tinted Moisturiser, to blend with and bring a more even tone to your skin.

WHAT IS A SKIN COLOUR CORRECTING CONCEALER VS A COVERING CONCEALER?

Generally speaking, in the world of Concealers there are two types – Correcting and Covering. The Tony & Munro Real Conceal is a skin colour Correcting Concealer used for correcting red-skin undertones or dark circles under your eyes. It’s usually a lighter shade than your Balance Balm, Tinted Moisturiser or Foundation (that you’ll then apply over the top) and can even have a yellow or green tinge to it (to cover up reds, blues or purples). We recommend applying our Balance Balm Tinted Moisturiser over the top, to blend with our Concealer, to bring an even tone to your skin.

Covering Concealers, which are your more common type of concealers, are used for covering up spots or blemishes after you’ve applied your Balance Balm, Tinted Moisturiser or Foundation. They typically have more of a pink, peach or brown tinge and are usually the same shade or a bit darker than your Balance Balm, Tinted Moisturiser or Foundation. It’s worked-in over the top of any visible blemishes, concealing away the spot you want to cover up.

WHY ARE OUR PRODUCTS MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR MEN’S SKIN?

Men’s skin is thicker – about 25%, it’s oilier and we have larger pores (and more of them). So, at Tony & Munro, we’ve created our products to be more absorbent and non-greasy, delivering a matte finish – and the power ingredient Niacinamide in some of our products even reduces and tightens pores.

The Kakadu Plum extract in our Balance Balm absorbs deep into your skin, providing a Vitamin C boost, which promotes elasticity and reduces the signs of ageing – and all of our products are lightweight and easy to apply, whilst providing full, even and lasting coverage to help get you through your busy day.

Our Hero Spotlight – Balance Balm

What is the difference between a BB Cream, a Balance Balm and a Tinted Moisturiser?

Traditionally BB or Blemish Balm creams are your go to daily all-in-one product. They are designed to be a moisturiser, with a tint and a sunscreen, offering restorative, protective, and blemish coverage benefits. Tinted moisturisers, in the past, have typically been just that, a moisturiser with a tint in it.

Today however, the terms ‘BB Cream’ and ‘Tinted Moisturiser’ are used interchangeably. ‘Tinted Moisturiser’ can also refer to the category of product, which also covers BB Creams and some Foundations.

At Tony & Munro, we’ve decided to call our award winning BB Cream a Balance Balm, Tinted Moisturiser, because ‘Balance Balm’ is a term we can own and ‘Tinted Moisturiser’ is a more accepted and understood term. It’s still the great BB Cream formula we’ve always had… now just called something else that everyone understands.

How much Balance Balm do I apply?

You don’t have to layer it on to get more SPF coverage, but you can for extra blemish coverage.

Now this really is our hero all-in-one product. It’s a moisturiser, with a tint and it’s SPF 30. It’s a lightweight formula that comes in three shades and has a natural indigenous botanical, Kakadu Plum, enriching your skin with Vitamin C and Antioxidants. It moisturises, protects and provides even tone coverage, all at the same time.

Apply a little to your fingertips and tap all over your face, then gently massage it into your skin and blend it into your hair and beard line (if you have one). That’s it. A little goes a long way and provides a refreshed look, but you can also layer it (apply just a little more), for fuller blemish coverage, if needed. Either will help to smooth and balance your complexion, giving your skin a more even tone.

Blend two shades of Balance Balm together to find your perfect shade

We currently have three shades in our Balance Balm, Tinted Moisturiser range – Light, Medium and Dark. Generally speaking, three shades should suffice, however, we understand that your skin tone might not match one of these three shades exactly. Here’s what you can do – you can either layer your Balance Balm for a darker coverage or blend two shades together to find your perfect colour match.

When applying your Balance Balm, you should always start with less. Place a small amount on your fingertips and tap onto your forehead and cheeks. Then massage into your skin, blending into your hair and beard line (if you have one). With our lightweight, non-greasy matte finish formula, a little goes a long way. If you feel like you need more colour or darker coverage, repeat the process. It’s always easier to add more than remove it.

If you still can’t find your perfect colour match, you can blend two shades of Balance Balm together to create a shade that’s right for you. Simply pump out a small amount of both shades onto the back of your hand, blend with your fingers and apply sparingly.

Still not sure what is right for you? Contact us at hello@tonyandmunro.com and our friendly Customer Service team will arrange to send you some samples, so you can test the shades at home for yourself.

Why Washing Your Face Daily Is Important!

Washing your face daily is important to help remove excess oil and dirt from your skin and pores. All of our products easily wash off with water. So at the end of the day, just rinse your face with cold water, or use a gentle face wash, like our Get Fresh gentle gel, foaming, citrus face wash and you’re all done. It also helps your skin repair naturally, preventing ageing and giving you a natural glow. Our Get Fresh face wash contains Citric Acid to help promote skin cell regeneration and Coconut Extract to smooth, soften and repair your skin.

Benefits of using an SPF daily

Experts say that we really should be wearing a daily SPF all year round, so we really can’t stress enough the importance of adding an SPF into your daily routine.

SPF is by default an anti-ageing product, as exposure to the sun can cause your skin to age prematurely, leaving you with damaged, wrinkled and tough skin. Not to mention the dangers of skin cancer. Now, don’t think of your heavy, thick, zinc based, traditional greasy SPF creams here (yuck)! That’s old school. All you need is a light SPF 15 or SPF 30 to get you through the day, as it blocks out about 93% - 97% of the sun’s UV rays.

Our SPF 30 Balance Balm (available in three shades) is your daily skincare routine in a bottle. This lightweight all-in-one cream not only helps to protect your skin against the sun’s harsh UVA & UVB rays, but it moisturises your skin, helping to cover fine lines, reduce redness and dark circles, and even out your complexion.

If you’re after something a little lighter and without a tint, try our Moisture Max SPF 15 Moisturiser. This lightweight moisturiser helps to hydrate your skin and protect against UVA & UVB rays. Both our SPF products also contain Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid, helping to promote skin cell elasticity, repair and hydration – all with a matte finish.

Also, our SPF products don’t contain Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, chemicals typically found in SPF products, which have been proven to cause damage to our coral reefs. So, when you purchase from Tony & Munro you know you’re not only looking after your skin but the environment as well.
